It spots weird behavior before you even pick up, but for now, it's only on Android in the US

You'll see a warning message like this if NordVPN detects a scammer.

Nord Security

Byte-Sized Brief

  • NordVPN adds scam call alerts.
  • It detects threats using call pattern analysis.
  • Works on Android for now, and only in the US.

NordVPN, best known for keeping internet traffic private through its VPN service, is now helping Android users screen phone calls. A new feature called Scam Call Protection monitors suspicious activity when a call is received, identifying patterns and metadata that may indicate a potential scam caller or telemarketer. If the system thinks something is off, it displays a warning before you answer.

To turn it on, head to the Threat Protection screen and toggle on Scam Call Protection. It runs quietly in the background once enabled; you don't even need to connect to the VPN. The company says iOS support is coming soon, along with the ability to report scam calls directly, see caller ID for legitimate numbers, and view additional call categories to know whether the caller is from a finance company, customer support, etc. The feature is currently available only in the US as part of a NordVPN premium subscription, but expansion is planned for a future update.

The Bottom Line

NordVPN’s new Scam Call Protection tool flags shady calls by checking the numbers against known scam databases. Your conversations aren't analyzed, and no VPN connection is needed. It's available now for Android users in the US.
